Student visa requirements for Australia

The Australian government offers all Indian students the opportunity to study in the country, but you must first obtain a student visa. The type of visa you require will be determined by your age, the type of study you wish to pursue, and the length of time you intend to stay in Australia. Regardless of your field of study, as an international student, you will almost always need a student (subclass 500) visa.

A student subclass 500 visa, which has been in effect since July 1, 2016, allows you to stay in Australia for the duration of your study programme, which is usually up to five years and is determined by your enrollment date. To ensure a smooth stay, make sure your visa is still valid and that you follow the terms of your student visa. • You can participate in your desired study program
• You can be accompanied by your family members to Australia
• You can apply in or outside Australia through online portal

Basic checks before you apply

• You should be enrolled in your desired study program in Australia
• You should hold Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) or either fall in any of the exemption categories
• You must be equal to or more than 6 years
• You need to prove that you have a welfare arrangement (in case you are less than 18 years of age)
